Matthew 23:18

And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar is bound by nothing. ¹  But if anyone swears by the gift on it he is bound by the oath.’

You also say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.’

"And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, that is nothing, but whoever swears by the offering on it, he is obligated.’

And you say that to take an oath ‘by the altar’ can be broken, but to swear ‘by the gifts on the altar’ is binding!

And what about this piece of trivia: 'If you shake hands on a promise, that's nothing; but if you raise your hand that God is your witness, that's serious'?

And, Whoever takes an oath by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever takes an oath by the offering which is on it, he is responsible.
