Genesis 34:14

They said to them, “We cannot give ¹  our sister to a man who is not circumcised, for it would be a disgrace ²  to us.

They said to them, "We can’t do such a thing; we can’t give our sister to a man who is not circumcised. That would be a disgrace to us.

They said to them, "We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised, for that would be a disgrace to us.

They said to them, "We couldn’t possibly allow this, because you aren’t circumcised. It would be a disgrace for her to marry a man like you!

They said, "This is impossible. We could never give our sister to a man who was uncircumcised. Why, we'd be disgraced.

And they said, It is not possible for us to give our sister to one who is without circumcision, for that would be a cause of shame to us:

They said to them, "We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised, for that would be a disgrace to us.

And they said to them, "We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised, for that would be a reproach to us.

They said to them, “We cannot give ¹  our sister to a man who is not circumcised, for it would be a disgrace ²  to us.

¹ tn Heb “we are not able to do this thing, to give.” The second infinitive is in apposition to the first, explaining what they are not able to do.

² tn The Hebrew word translated “disgrace” usually means “ridicule; taunt; reproach.” It can also refer to the reason the condition of shame or disgrace causes ridicule or a reproach.
