Job 15:15

If God places no trust in his holy ones, ¹  if even the heavens ²  are not pure in his eyes,

If God places no trust in his holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in his eyes,

"Behold, He puts no trust in His holy ones, And the heavens are not pure in His sight;

Why, God doesn’t even trust the angels! Even the heavens cannot be absolutely pure in his sight.

Why, God can't even trust his holy angels. He sees the flaws in the very heavens themselves,

Truly, he puts no faith in his holy ones, and the heavens are not clean in his eyes;

God puts no trust even in his holy ones, and the heavens are not clean in his sight;

If God puts no trust in His saints, And the heavens are not pure in His sight,

If God places no trust in his holy ones, ¹  if even the heavens ²  are not pure in his eyes,

¹ tn Eliphaz here reiterates the point made in Job 4:18.

² sn The question here is whether the reference is to material “heavens” (as in Exod 24:10 and Job 25:5), or to heavenly beings. The latter seems preferable in this context.
