Job 40:12

Look at every proud man and abase him; crush the wicked on the spot! ¹ 

look at every proud man and humble him, crush the wicked where they stand.

"Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him, And tread down the wicked where they stand.

Humiliate the proud with a glance; walk on the wicked where they stand.

Target the arrogant and bring them to their knees. Stop the wicked in their tracks--make mincemeat of them!

Send destruction on all who are lifted up, pulling down the sinners from their places.

Look on all who are proud, and bring them low; tread down the wicked where they stand.

¹ tn The expression translated “on the spot” is the prepositional phrase תַּחְתָּם (takhtam, “under them”). “Under them” means in their place. But it can also mean “where someone stands, on the spot” (see Exod 16:29; Jos 6:5; Judg 7:21, etc.).
