Jeremiah 8:4

The Lord said to me, ¹  “Tell them, ‘The Lord says, Do people not get back up when they fall down? Do they not turn around when they go the wrong way? ² 

"Say to them, ‘This is what the LORD says: "‘When men fall down, do they not get up? When a man turns away, does he not return?

"You shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD, "Do men fall and not get up again? Does one turn away and not repent?

"Jeremiah, say to the people, ‘This is what the LORD says: When people fall down, don’t they get up again? When they start down the wrong road and discover their mistake, don’t they turn back?

"Tell them this, GOD's Message: "'Do people fall down and not get up? Or take the wrong road and then just keep going?

Further, you are to say to them, This is what the Lord has said: Will those who are falling not be lifted up again? will he who has gone away not come back?

You shall say to them, Thus says the LORD: When people fall, do they not get up again? If they go astray, do they not turn back?

"Moreover you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD: "Will they fall and not rise? Will one turn away and not return?

The Lord said to me, ¹  “Tell them, ‘The Lord says, Do people not get back up when they fall down? Do they not turn around when they go the wrong way? ² 

¹ tn The words “the Lord said to me” are not in the text but are implicit from the context. They are supplied in the translation to make clear who is speaking and who is being addressed.

² sn There is a play on two different nuances of the same Hebrew word that means “turn” and “return,” “turn away” and “turn back.”
