Judges 8:33

After Gideon died, the Israelites again prostituted themselves to the Baals. They made Baal-Berith ¹  their god.

No sooner had Gideon died than the Israelites again prostituted themselves to the Baals. They set up Baal-Berith as their god and

Then it came about, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the sons of Israel again played the harlot with the Baals, and made Baal-berith their god.

As soon as Gideon was dead, the Israelites prostituted themselves by worshiping the images of Baal, making Baal–berith their god.

Gideon was hardly cool in the tomb when the People of Israel had gotten off track and were prostituting themselves to Baal--they made Baal-of-the-Covenant their god.

And after the death of Gideon, the children of Israel again went after the gods of Canaan and were false to the Lord, and made Baal-berith their god.

As soon as Gideon died, the Israelites relapsed and prostituted themselves with the Baals, making Baal-berith their god.

So it was, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel again played the harlot with the Baals, and made Baal–Berith their god.

¹ sn Baal-Berith was a local manifestation of the Canaanite storm god. The name means, ironically, “Baal of the covenant.” Israel’s covenant allegiance had indeed shifted.
