Genesis 37:21

When Reuben heard this, he rescued Joseph ¹  from their hands, ²  saying, ³  “Let’s not take his life!” ⁴ 

When Reuben heard this, he tried to rescue him from their hands. "Let’s not take his life," he said.

But Reuben heard this and rescued him out of their hands and said, "Let us not take his life."

But Reuben came to Joseph’s rescue. "Let’s not kill him," he said.

Reuben heard the brothers talking and intervened to save him, "We're not going to kill him.

But Reuben, hearing these words, got him out of their hands, saying, Let us not take his life.

But when Reuben heard it, he delivered him out of their hands, saying, "Let us not take his life."

But Reuben heard it , and he delivered him out of their hands, and said, "Let us not kill him."

When Reuben heard this, he rescued Joseph ¹  from their hands, ²  saying, ³  “Let’s not take his life!” ⁴ 

¹ tn Heb “him”; the referent (Joseph) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

² sn From their hands. The instigators of this plot may have been the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah (see v. 2).

³ tn Heb “and he said.”

⁴ tn Heb “we must not strike him down [with respect to] life.”
