Genesis 30:25

After Rachel had given birth ¹  to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, “Send ²  me on my way so that I can go ³  home to my own country. ⁴ 

After Rachel gave birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, "Send me on my way so that I can go back to my own homeland.

Now it came about when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said to Laban, "Send me away, that I may go to my own place and to my own country.

Soon after Joseph was born to Rachel, Jacob said to Laban, "I want to go back home.

After Rachel had had Joseph, Jacob spoke to Laban, "Let me go back home.

Now after the birth of Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, Let me go away to my place and my country.

When Rachel had borne Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, "Send me away, that I may go to my own home and country.

And it came to pass, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said to Laban, "Send me away, that I may go to my own place and to my country.

After Rachel had given birth ¹  to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, “Send ²  me on my way so that I can go ³  home to my own country. ⁴ 

¹ tn The perfect verbal form is translated as a past perfect because Rachel’s giving birth to Joseph preceded Jacob’s conversation with Laban.

² tn The imperatival form here expresses a request.

sn For Jacob to ask to leave would mean that seven more years had passed. Thus all Jacob’s children were born within the range of seven years of each other, with Joseph coming right at the end of the seven years.

³ tn Following the imperative, the cohortative with the prefixed conjunction indicates purpose or result.

⁴ tn Heb “to my place and to my land.”
