2 Chronicles 17:3

The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he followed in his ancestor ¹  David’s footsteps at the beginning of his reign. ²  He did not seek the Baals,

The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because in his early years he walked in the ways that his father David had followed. He did not consult the Baals

The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the example of his father David’s earlier days and did not seek the Baals,

The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the example of his father’s early years and did not worship the images of Baal.

GOD was on Jehoshaphat's side because he stuck to the ways of his father Asa's early years. He didn't fool around with the popular Baal religion--

And the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he went in the early ways of his father, not turning to the Baals,

The LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the earlier ways of his father; he did not seek the Baals,

Now the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the former ways of his father David; he did not seek the Baals,

The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he followed in his ancestor ¹  David’s footsteps at the beginning of his reign. ²  He did not seek the Baals,

¹ tn Heb “father.”

² tn Heb “for he walked in the ways of David his father [in] the beginning [times].”
