2 Samuel 14:16

Yes! ¹  The king may ²  listen and deliver his female servant ³  from the hand of the man who seeks to remove ⁴  both me and my son from the inheritance God has given us!’ ⁵ 

Perhaps the king will agree to deliver his servant from the hand of the man who is trying to cut off both me and my son from the inheritance God gave us.’

‘For the king will hear and deliver his maidservant from the hand of the man who would destroy both me and my son from the inheritance of God.’

and rescue us from those who would cut us off from God’s people.

When the king hears what's going on, he'll step in and rescue me from the abuse of the man who would get rid of me and my son and God's inheritance--the works!'

For the king will give ear, and take his servant out of the power of the man whose purpose is the destruction of me and my son together from the heritage of God.

For the king will hear, and deliver his servant from the hand of the man who would cut both me and my son off from the heritage of God.’

² tn Or “will.” The imperfect verbal form can have either an indicative or modal nuance. The use of “perhaps” in v. 15b suggests the latter here.

³ tn Heb “in order to deliver his maid.”

⁴ tn Heb “destroy.”

⁵ tn Heb “from the inheritance of God.” The expression refers to the property that was granted to her family line in the division of the land authorized by God.
