Psalms 109:19

May a curse attach itself to him, like a garment one puts on, ¹  or a belt ²  one wears continually!

May it be like a cloak wrapped about him, like a belt tied for ever round him.

Let it be to him as a garment with which he covers himself, And for a belt with which he constantly girds himself.

Now may his curses return and cling to him like clothing; may they be tied around him like a belt.

So give him a gift--a costume of curses; he can wear curses every day of the week!

Let it be to him as a robe which he puts on, let it be like a band which is round him at all times.

May it be like a garment that he wraps around himself, like a belt that he wears every day."

¹ tn Heb “may it be for him like a garment one puts on.”

² tn The Hebrew noun מֵזַח (mezakh, “belt; waistband”) occurs only here in the OT. The form apparently occurs in Isa 23:10 as well, but an emendation is necessary there.
