Psalms 107:23

¹ Some traveled on ²  the sea in ships, and carried cargo over the vast waters. ³ 

Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters.

Those who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters;

Some went off in ships, plying the trade routes of the world.

Some of you set sail in big ships; you put to sea to do business in faraway ports.

Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business in the great waters;

Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the mighty waters;

Those who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters,

¹ Some traveled on ²  the sea in ships, and carried cargo over the vast waters. ³ 

¹ sn Verses 23-30, which depict the Lord rescuing sailors from a storm at sea, do not seem to describe the exiles’ situation, unless the word picture is metaphorical. Perhaps the psalmist here broadens his scope and offers an example of God’s kindness to the needy beyond the covenant community.
