Luke 7:4

When ¹  they came ²  to Jesus, they urged ³  him earnestly, ⁴  “He is worthy ⁵  to have you do this for him,

When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, "This man deserves to have you do this,

When they came to Jesus, they earnestly implored Him, saying, "He is worthy for You to grant this to him;

So they earnestly begged Jesus to come with them and help the man. "If anyone deserves your help, it is he," they said,

They came to Jesus and urged him to do it, saying, "He deserves this.

And they, when they came to Jesus, made their request warmly, saying,

When they came to Jesus, they appealed to him earnestly, saying, "He is worthy of having you do this for him,

And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving,

² tn Although the participle παραγενόμενοι (paragenomenoi) is preceded by the Greek article (οἱ, Joi) which would normally cause it to be regarded as an adjectival or substantival participle, most modern translations, probably as a result of the necessities of contemporary English style, render it as a temporal participle (“when they came”).

³ tn Or “implored.”

⁴ tn Grk “urged him earnestly, saying”; the participle λέγοντες (legontes) is pleonastic (redundant) and has not been translated.

⁵ tn Grk “Worthy is he to have you do this”; the term “worthy” comes first in the direct discourse and is emphatic.
