Job 31:12

For it is a fire that devours even to Destruction, ¹  and it would uproot ²  all my harvest.

It is a fire that burns to Destruction; it would have uprooted my harvest.

"For it would be fire that consumes to Abaddon, And would uproot all my increase.

It is a devastating fire that destroys to hell. It would wipe out everything I own.

Adultery is a fire that burns the house down; I wouldn't expect anything I count dear to survive it.

It would be a fire burning even to destruction, and taking away all my produce.

for that would be a fire consuming down to Abaddon, and it would burn to the root all my harvest.

² tn The verb means “to root out,” but this does not fit the parallelism with fire. Wright changed two letters and the vowels in the verb to get the root צָרַף (tsaraf, “to burn”). The NRSV has “burn to the root.”
