Jeremiah 23:19

But just watch! ¹  The wrath of the Lord will come like a storm! ²  Like a raging storm it will rage down ³  on the heads of those who are wicked.

See, the storm of the LORD will burst out in wrath, a whirlwind swirling down on the heads of the wicked.

"Behold, the storm of the LORD has gone forth in wrath, Even a whirling tempest; It will swirl down on the head of the wicked.

Look! The LORD’s anger bursts out like a storm, a whirlwind that swirls down on the heads of the wicked.

Look out! GOD's hurricane will be let loose--my hurricane blast, Spinning the heads of the wicked like tops!

See, the storm-wind of the Lord, even the heat of his wrath, has gone out, a rolling storm, bursting on the heads of the evil-doers.

Look, the storm of the LORD! Wrath has gone forth, a whirling tempest; it will burst upon the head of the wicked.

Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD has gone forth in fury––A violent whirlwind! It will fall violently on the head of the wicked.

But just watch! ¹  The wrath of the Lord will come like a storm! ²  Like a raging storm it will rage down ³  on the heads of those who are wicked.

² tn The syntax of this line has generally been misunderstood, sometimes to the point that some want to delete the word wrath. Both here and in 30:23 where these same words occur the word “anger” stands not as an accusative of attendant circumstance but an apposition, giving the intended referent to the figure. Comparison should be made with Jer 25:15 where “this wrath” is appositional to “the cup of wine” (cf. GKC 425 §131.k).

³ tn The translation is deliberate, intending to reflect the repetition of the Hebrew root which is “swirl/swirling.”
