Judges 9:41

Abimelech went back ¹  to Arumah; Zebul drove Gaal and his brothers out of Shechem. ² 

Abimelech stayed in Arumah, and Zebul drove Gaal and his brothers out of Shechem.

Then Abimelech remained at Arumah, but Zebul drove out Gaal and his relatives so that they could not remain in Shechem.

Abimelech set up his field headquarters at Arumah while Zebul kept Gaal and his relatives out of Shechem.

Then Abimelech went back to Arumah; and Zebul sent Gaal and his brothers away and would not let them go on living in Shechem.

So Abimelech resided at Arumah; and Zebul drove out Gaal and his kinsfolk, so that they could not live on at Shechem.

Then Abimelech dwelt at Arumah, and Zebul drove out Gaal and his brothers, so that they would not dwell in Shechem.

¹ tc Heb “stayed.” Some scholars revise the vowel pointing on this verb from that of the MT, resulting in the translation “and he returned to.” The Lucianic recension of the LXX understands the word in this way.

² tn Heb “drove…out from dwelling in Shechem.”
