Exodus 16:21

So they gathered it each morning, ¹  each person according to what he could eat, and when the sun got hot, it would melt. ² 

Each morning everyone gathered as much as he needed, and when the sun grew hot, it melted away.

They gathered it morning by morning, every man as much as he should eat; but when the sun grew hot, it would melt.

The people gathered the food morning by morning, each family according to its need. And as the sun became hot, the food they had not picked up melted and disappeared.

They gathered it every morning, each person according to need. Then the sun heated up and it melted.

And they took it up morning by morning, every man as he had need: and when the sun was high it was gone.

Morning by morning they gathered it, as much as each needed; but when the sun grew hot, it melted.

¹ tn Heb “morning by morning.” This is an example of the repetition of words to express the distributive sense; here the meaning is “every morning” (see GKC 388 §121.c).

² tn The perfect tenses here with vav (ו) consecutives have the frequentative sense; they function in a protasis-apodosis relationship (GKC 494 §159.g).
