2 Samuel 3:6

As the war continued between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner was becoming more influential ¹  in the house of Saul.

During the war between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner had been strengthening his own position in the house of Saul.

It came about while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David that Abner was making himself strong in the house of Saul.

As the war went on, Abner became a powerful leader among those who were loyal to Saul’s dynasty.

Abner took advantage of the continuing war between the house of Saul and the house of David to gain power for himself.

Now while there was war between Saul’s people and David’s people, Abner was making himself strong among the supporters of Saul.

While there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner was making himself strong in the house of Saul.

Now it was so, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner was strengthening his hold on the house of Saul.

As the war continued between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner was becoming more influential ¹  in the house of Saul.

¹ tn Heb “was strengthening himself.” The statement may have a negative sense here, perhaps suggesting that Abner was overstepping the bounds of political propriety in a self-serving way.
