2 Kings 9:12

But they said, “You’re lying! Tell us what he said.” So he told them what he had said. He also related how he had said, ¹  “This is what the Lord says, ‘I have designated you as king over Israel.’”

"That’s not true!" they said. "Tell us." Jehu said, "Here is what he told me: ‘This is what the LORD says: I anoint you king over Israel.’"

They said, "It is a lie, tell us now." And he said, "Thus and thus he said to me, ‘Thus says the LORD, "I have anointed you king over Israel."’"

"You’re lying," they said. "Tell us." So Jehu told them what the man had said and that at the LORD’s command he had been anointed king over Israel.

"That's a lie!" they said. "Tell us what's going on." He said, "He told me this and this and this--in effect, 'GOD's word: I anoint you king of Israel!'"

And they said, That is not true; now give us his story. Then he said, This is what he said to me: The Lord says, I have made you king over Israel.

They said, "Liar! Come on, tell us!" So he said, "This is just what he said to me: ‘Thus says the LORD, I anoint you king over Israel.’"

And they said, "A lie! Tell us now." So he said, "Thus and thus he spoke to me, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD: "I have anointed you king over Israel."’"

But they said, “You’re lying! Tell us what he said.” So he told them what he had said. He also related how he had said, ¹  “This is what the Lord says, ‘I have designated you as king over Israel.’”

¹ tn Heb “So he said, ‘Like this and like this he said to me, saying.’” The words “like this and like this” are probably not a direct quote of Jehu’s words to his colleagues. Rather this is the narrator’s way of avoiding repetition and indicating that Jehu repeated, or at least summarized, what the prophet had said to him.
