1 Kings 12:26

Jeroboam then thought to himself: ¹  “Now the Davidic dynasty could regain the kingdom. ² 

Jeroboam thought to himself, "The kingdom is now likely to revert to the house of David.

Jeroboam said in his heart, "Now the kingdom will return to the house of David.

Jeroboam thought to himself, "Unless I am careful, the kingdom will return to the dynasty of David.

But then Jeroboam thought, "It won't be long before the kingdom is reunited under David.

And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now the kingdom will go back to the family of David:

Then Jeroboam said to himself, "Now the kingdom may well revert to the house of David.

And Jeroboam said in his heart, "Now the kingdom may return to the house of David:

Jeroboam then thought to himself: ¹  “Now the Davidic dynasty could regain the kingdom. ² 

¹ tn Heb “said in his heart.”

² tn Heb “Now the kingdom could return to the house of David.” The imperfect verbal form translated “could return” is understood as having a potential force here. Perhaps this is not strong enough; another option is “will return.”
