1 Samuel 28:13

The king said to her, “Don’t be afraid! What have you seen?” The woman replied to Saul, “I have seen one like a god ¹  coming up from the ground!”

The king said to her, "Don’t be afraid. What do you see?" The woman said, "I see a spirit coming up out of the ground."

The king said to her, "Do not be afraid; but what do you see?" And the woman said to Saul, "I see a divine being coming up out of the earth."

"Don’t be afraid!" the king told her. "What do you see?" "I see a god coming up out of the earth," she said.

The king told her, "You have nothing to fear...but what do you see?" "I see a spirit ascending from the underground."

And the king said to her, Have no fear: what do you see? And the woman said to Saul, I see a god coming up out of the earth.

The king said to her, "Have no fear; what do you see?" The woman said to Saul, "I see a divine being coming up out of the ground."

And the king said to her, "Do not be afraid. What did you see?" And the woman said to Saul, "I saw a spirit ascending out of the earth."

The king said to her, “Don’t be afraid! What have you seen?” The woman replied to Saul, “I have seen one like a god ¹  coming up from the ground!”

¹ tn Heb “gods.” The modifying participle (translated “coming up”) is plural, suggesting that underworld spirits are the referent. But in the following verse Saul understands the plural word to refer to a singular being. The reference is to the spirit of Samuel.
