Psalms 88:12

Are your amazing deeds experienced ¹  in the dark region, ²  or your deliverance in the land of oblivion? ³ 

Are your wonders known in the place of darkness, or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion?

Will Your wonders be made known in the darkness? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

Can the darkness speak of your miracles? Can anyone in the land of forgetfulness talk about your righteousness?

Are your marvelous wonders ever seen in the dark, your righteous ways noticed in the Land of No Memory?

May there be knowledge of your wonders in the dark? or of your righteousness where memory is dead?

Are your wonders known in the darkness, or your saving help in the land of forgetfulness?

Shall Your wonders be known in the dark? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

Are your amazing deeds experienced ¹  in the dark region, ²  or your deliverance in the land of oblivion? ³

² tn Heb “darkness,” here a title for Sheol.

³ tn Heb “forgetfulness.” The noun, which occurs only here in the OT, is derived from a verbal root meaning “to forget.”

sn The rhetorical questions in vv. 10-12 expect the answer, “Of course not!”
