Psalms 26:6

I maintain a pure lifestyle, ¹  so I can appear before your altar, ²  O Lord,

I wash my hands in innocence, and go about your altar, O LORD,

I shall wash my hands in innocence, And I will go about Your altar, O LORD,

I wash my hands to declare my innocence. I come to your altar, O LORD,

I scrub my hands with purest soap, then join hands with the others in the great circle, dancing around your altar, GOD,

I will make my hands clean from sin; so will I go round your altar, O Lord;

I wash my hands in innocence, and go around your altar, O LORD,

I will wash my hands in innocence; So I will go about Your altar, O LORD,

I maintain a pure lifestyle, ¹  so I can appear before your altar, ²  O Lord,

¹ tn Heb “I wash my hands in innocence.” The psalmist uses an image from cultic ritual to picture his moral lifestyle. The imperfect verbal emphasizes that this is his habit.

² tn Heb “so I can go around your altar” (probably in ritual procession). Following the imperfect of the preceding line, the cohortative with vav (ו) conjunctive indicates purpose or result.
