Mark 10:22

But at this statement, the man ¹  looked sad and went away sorrowful, for he was very rich. ² 

At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

But at these words he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property.

At this, the man’s face fell, and he went sadly away because he had many possessions.

The man's face clouded over. This was the last thing he expected to hear, and he walked off with a heavy heart. He was holding on tight to a lot of things, and not about to let go.

But his face became sad at the saying, and he went away sorrowing: for he was one who had much property.

When he heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions.

But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

But at this statement, the man ¹  looked sad and went away sorrowful, for he was very rich. ² 

¹ tn Grk “he”; the referent (the man who asked the question in v. 17) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

² tn Grk “he had many possessions.” This term (κτῆμα, kthma) is often used for land as a possession.
