Jeremiah 5:27

Like a cage filled with the birds that have been caught, ¹  their houses are filled with the gains of their fraud and deceit. ²  That is how they have gotten so rich and powerful. ³ 

Like cages full of birds, their houses are full of deceit; they have become rich and powerful

‘Like a cage full of birds, So their houses are full of deceit; Therefore they have become great and rich.

Like a cage filled with birds, their homes are filled with evil plots. And the result? Now they are great and rich.

Their houses are stuffed with ill-gotten gain, like a hunter's bag full of birds. Pretentious and powerful and rich,

As the fowl-house is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: for this reason they have become great and have got wealth.

Like a cage full of birds, their houses are full of treachery; therefore they have become great and rich,

As a cage is full of birds, So their houses are full of deceit. Therefore they have become great and grown rich.

¹ tn The words, “that have been caught” are not in the text but are implicit in the comparison.

² tn Heb “are filled with deceit.” The translation assumes a figure of speech of cause for effect (metonymy). Compare the same word in the same figure in Zeph 1:9.

³ tn Heb “therefore they have gotten great and rich.”
