Isaiah 21:12

The watchman replies, “Morning is coming, but then night. ¹  If you want to ask, ask; come back again.” ² 

The watchman replies, "Morning is coming, but also the night. If you would ask, then ask; and come back yet again."

The watchman says, "Morning comes but also night. If you would inquire, inquire; Come back again."

The watchman replies, "Morning is coming, but night will soon follow. If you wish to ask again, then come back and ask."

The night watchman calls back, "Morning's coming, But for now it's still night. If you ask me again, I'll give the same answer."

The watchman says, The morning has come, but night is still to come: if you have questions to put, put them, and come back again.

The sentinel says: "Morning comes, and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire; come back again."

The watchman said, "The morning comes, and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire; Return! Come back!"

The watchman replies, “Morning is coming, but then night. ¹  If you want to ask, ask; come back again.” ² 

¹ sn Dumah will experience some relief, but it will be short-lived as night returns.

² sn The point of the watchman’s final instructions (“if you want to ask, ask; come again”) is unclear. Perhaps they are included to add realism to the dramatic portrayal. The watchman sends the questioner away with the words, “Feel free to come back and ask again.”
