Psalms 88:15

I am oppressed and have been on the verge of death since my youth. ¹  I have been subjected to your horrors and am numb with pain. ² 

From my youth I have been afflicted and close to death; I have suffered your terrors and am in despair.

I was afflicted and about to die from my youth on; I suffer Your terrors; I am overcome.

I have been sickly and close to death since my youth. I stand helpless and desperate before your terrors.

For as long as I remember I've been hurting; I've taken the worst you can hand out, and I've had it.

I have been troubled and in fear of death from the time when I was young; your wrath is hard on me, and I have no strength.

Wretched and close to death from my youth up, I suffer your terrors; I am desperate.

² tn Heb “I carry your horrors [?].” The meaning of the Hebrew form אָפוּנָה (’afunah), which occurs only here in the OT, is unclear. It may be an adverb meaning “very much” (BDB 67 s.v.), though some prefer to emend the text to אָפוּגָה (’afugah, “I am numb”) from the verb פוּג (pug; see Pss 38:8; 77:2).
