Psalms 17:4

As for the actions of people ¹  – just as you have commanded, I have not followed in the footsteps of violent men. ² 

As for the deeds of men—by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.

As for the deeds of men, by the word of Your lips I have kept from the paths of the violent.

I have followed your commands, which have kept me from going along with cruel and evil people.

I'm not trying to get my way in the world's way. I'm trying to get [your] way, your Word's way.

As for the works of men, by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.

As for what others do, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent.

Concerning the works of men, By the word of Your lips, I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer.

As for the actions of people ¹  – just as you have commanded, I have not followed in the footsteps of violent men. ²

² tn Heb “by the word of your lips, I, I have watched the paths of the violent” (i.e., “watched” in the sense of “watched for the purpose of avoiding”).
