Psalms 144:7

Reach down ¹  from above! Grab me and rescue me from the surging water, ²  from the power of foreigners, ³ 

Reach down your hand from on high; deliver me and rescue me from the mighty waters, from the hands of foreigners

Stretch forth Your hand from on high; Rescue me and deliver me out of great waters, Out of the hand of aliens

Reach down from heaven and rescue me; deliver me from deep waters, from the power of my enemies.

Reach all the way from sky to sea: pull me out of the ocean of hate, out of the grip of those barbarians

Put out your hand from on high; make me free, take me safely out of the great waters, and out of the hands of strange men;

Stretch out your hand from on high; set me free and rescue me from the mighty waters, from the hand of aliens,

Stretch out Your hand from above; Rescue me and deliver me out of great waters, From the hand of foreigners,

Reach down ¹  from above! Grab me and rescue me from the surging water, ²  from the power of foreigners, ³ 

¹ tn Heb “stretch out your hands.”

² tn Heb “mighty waters.” The waters of the sea symbolize the psalmist’s powerful foreign enemies, as well as the realm of death they represent (see the next line and Ps 18:16-17).

³ tn Heb “from the hand of the sons of foreignness.”
