Proverbs 14:15

A naive person ¹  believes everything, but the shrewd person discerns his steps. ² 

A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thought to his steps.

The naive believes everything, But the sensible man considers his steps.

Only simpletons believe everything they are told! The prudent carefully consider their steps.

The gullible believe anything they're told; the prudent sift and weigh every word.

The simple man has faith in every word, but the man of good sense gives thought to his footsteps.

¹ sn The contrast is with the simpleton and the shrewd. The simpleton is the young person who is untrained morally or intellectually, and therefore gullible. The shrewd one is the prudent person, the one who has the ability to make critical discriminations.
