Micah 7:1
ContextNET © | I am depressed! 1 Indeed, 2 it is as if the summer fruit has been gathered, and the grapes have been harvested. 3 There is no grape cluster to eat, no fresh figs that I crave so much. 4 |
NIV © | What misery is mine! I am like one who gathers summer fruit at the gleaning of the vineyard; there is no cluster of grapes to eat, none of the early figs that I crave. |
NASB © | Woe is me! For I am Like the fruit pickers, like the grape gatherers. There is not a cluster of grapes to eat, Or a first-ripe fig which I crave. |
NLT © | What misery is mine! I feel like the fruit picker after the harvest who can find nothing to eat. Not a cluster of grapes or a single fig can be found to satisfy my hunger. |
MSG © | I'm overwhelmed with sorrow! sunk in a swamp of despair! I'm like someone who goes to the garden to pick cabbages and carrots and corn And returns empty-handed, finds nothing for soup or sandwich or salad. |
BBE © | Sorrow is mine! for I am as when they have got in the summer fruits, like the last of the grapes: there is nothing for food, not even an early fig for my desire. |
NRSV © | Woe is me! For I have become like one who, after the summer fruit has been gathered, after the vintage has been gleaned, finds no cluster to eat; there is no first-ripe fig for which I hunger. |
NKJV © | Woe is me! For I am like those who gather summer fruits, Like those who glean vintage grapes; There is no cluster to eat Of the first–ripe fruit which my soul desires. |

NET © Notes |
1 tn Heb “woe to me!” In light of the image that follows, perhaps one could translate, “I am disappointed.” 2 tn Or “for.” 3 tn Heb “I am like the gathering of the summer fruit, like the gleanings of the harvest.” Micah is not comparing himself to the harvested fruit. There is an ellipsis here, as the second half of the verse makes clear. The idea is, “I am like [one at the time] the summer fruit is gathered and the grapes are harvested.” 4 tn Heb “my appetite craves.” |
