Luke 8:18

So listen carefully, ¹  for whoever has will be given more, but ²  whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has ³  will be taken from him.”

Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him."

"So take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him."

So be sure to pay attention to what you hear. To those who are open to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But to those who are not listening, even what they think they have will be taken away from them."

So be careful that you don't become misers of what you hear. Generosity begets generosity. Stinginess impoverishes."

So take care how you give hearing, for to him who has will be given, and from him who has not will be taken even what he seems to have.

Then pay attention to how you listen; for to those who have, more will be given; and from those who do not have, even what they seem to have will be taken away."

¹ tn Or “Therefore pay close attention”; Grk “Take heed therefore how you hear.”

² tn Grk “and.” Here καί (kai) has been translated as “but” to indicate the contrast present in this context.

³ sn The phrase what he thinks he has is important, because it is not what a person thinks he has that is important but whether he actually has something or not. Jesus describes the person who does not heed his word as having nothing. The person who has nothing loses even that which he thought was something but was not. In other words, he has absolutely nothing at all. Jesus’ teaching must be taken seriously.
