Luke 4:33

Now ¹  in the synagogue ²  there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean ³  demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,

In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an evil spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice,

In the synagogue there was a man possessed by the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,

Once when he was in the synagogue, a man possessed by a demon began shouting at Jesus,

In the meeting place that day there was a man demonically disturbed. He screamed,

And there was a man in the Synagogue who had an unclean spirit; and he gave a loud cry and said,

¹ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the transition to a specific example of how Jesus spoke with authority (v. 32).

³ tn Grk “having an unclean, demonic spirit,” that is, an evil spirit. This is the only place Luke uses this lengthy phrase. Normally he simply says an “unclean spirit.”
