Genesis 32:8

“If Esau attacks one camp,” ¹  he thought, ²  “then the other camp will be able to escape.” ³ 

He thought, "If Esau comes and attacks one group, the group that is left may escape."

for he said, "If Esau comes to the one company and attacks it, then the company which is left will escape."

He thought, "If Esau attacks one group, perhaps the other can escape."

He thought, "If Esau comes on the first camp and attacks it, the other camp has a chance to get away."

And said, If Esau, meeting one group, makes an attack on them, the others will get away safely.

thinking, "If Esau comes to the one company and destroys it, then the company that is left will escape."

And he said, "If Esau comes to the one company and attacks it, then the other company which is left will escape."

“If Esau attacks one camp,” ¹  he thought, ²  “then the other camp will be able to escape.” ³ 

¹ tn Heb “If Esau comes to one camp and attacks it.”

² tn Heb “and he said, ‘If Esau comes to one camp and attacks it.” The Hebrew verb אָמַר (’amar) here represents Jacob’s thought or reasoning, and is therefore translated “he thought.” The order of the introductory clause and the direct discourse has been rearranged in the translation for stylistic reasons.

³ tn Heb “the surviving camp will be for escape.” The word “escape” is a feminine noun. The term most often refers to refugees from war.
