Exodus 12:35

Now the Israelites had done ¹  as Moses told them – they had requested from the Egyptians ²  silver and gold items and clothing.

The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing.

Now the sons of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, for they had requested from the Egyptians articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing;

And the people of Israel did as Moses had instructed and asked the Egyptians for clothing and articles of silver and gold.

The Israelites had already done what Moses had told them; they had asked the Egyptians for silver and gold things and clothing.

And the children of Israel had done as Moses had said; and they got from the Egyptians ornaments of silver and of gold, and clothing:

The Israelites had done as Moses told them; they had asked the Egyptians for jewelry of silver and gold, and for clothing,

Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing.

¹ tn The verbs “had done” and then “had asked” were accomplished prior to the present narrative (S. R. Driver, Exodus, 99). The verse begins with disjunctive word order to introduce the reminder of earlier background information.

² tn Heb “from Egypt.” Here the Hebrew text uses the name of the country to represent the inhabitants (a figure known as metonymy).
