Deuteronomy 17:17

Furthermore, he must not marry many ¹  wives lest his affections turn aside, and he must not accumulate much silver and gold.

He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

"He shall not multiply wives for himself, or else his heart will turn away; nor shall he greatly increase silver and gold for himself.

The king must not take many wives for himself, because they will lead him away from the LORD. And he must not accumulate vast amounts of wealth in silver and gold for himself.

And make sure he doesn't build up a harem, collecting wives who will divert him from the straight and narrow. And make sure he doesn't pile up a lot of silver and gold.

And he is not to have a great number of wives, for fear that his heart may be turned away; or great wealth of silver and gold.

And he must not acquire many wives for himself, or else his heart will turn away; also silver and gold he must not acquire in great quantity for himself.

"Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself.
