Acts 12:16

Now Peter continued knocking, and when they opened the door ¹  and saw him, they were greatly astonished. ² 

But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished.

But Peter continued knocking; and when they had opened the door, they saw him and were amazed.

Meanwhile, Peter continued knocking. When they finally went out and opened the door, they were amazed.

All this time poor Peter was standing out in the street, knocking away. Finally they opened up and saw him--and went wild!

But Peter went on giving blows on the door: and when it was open and they saw him, they were full of wonder.

¹ tn The words “the door” are not in the Greek text, but are implied (see Acts 12:13).

² sn That they were greatly astonished is a common response in Luke-Acts to God’s work (Luke 8:56; Acts 2:7, 12; 8:13; 9:21; 10:45).
