2 Timothy 2:16

But avoid profane chatter, ¹  because those occupied with it will stray further and further into ungodliness, ² 

Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.

But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness,

Avoid godless, foolish discussions that lead to more and more ungodliness.

Stay clear of pious talk that is only talk. Words are not mere words, you know. If they're not backed by a godly life,

But take no part in wrong and foolish talk, for those who do so will go farther into evil,

Avoid profane chatter, for it will lead people into more and more impiety,

But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness.

¹ sn Profane chatter was apparently a characteristic of the false teachers in Ephesus (cf. 1 Tim 1:3-4; 4:7; 6:20).
