102:8 All day long my enemies taunt me;

1 tn Or “scoff at, deride, mock.”

2 tn Heb “they separate with a lip.” Apparently this refers to their verbal taunting.

3 sn Shake their heads. Apparently this refers to a taunting gesture. See also Job 16:4; Ps 109:25; Lam 2:15.

4 sn Laugh in disgust. See Pss 2:4; 37:13.

5 tn Or “scoff at”; or “deride”; or “mock” (see Ps 2:4).

6 tn The prefixed verbal form is a preterite (without vav [ו] consecutive).

7 tn Heb “an [object of] taunting and [of] mockery to those around us.”

8 tn Heb “an [object of] taunting and [of] mockery to those around us.” See Ps 44:13.

9 tn Heb “by me they swear.” When the psalmist’s enemies call judgment down on others, they hold the psalmist up as a prime example of what they desire their enemies to become.
