Ezekiel 28:24

Context

28:24 “‘No longer will Israel suffer from the sharp briers 1  or painful thorns of all who surround and scorn them. 2  Then they will know that I am the sovereign Lord.

Ezekiel 2:6

Context
2:6 But you, son of man, do not fear them, and do not fear their words – even though briers 3  and thorns 4  surround you and you live among scorpions – do not fear their words and do not be terrified of the looks they give you, 5  for they are a rebellious house!

1 sn Similar language is used in reference to Israel’s adversaries in Num 33:55; Josh 23:13.

2 tn Heb “and there will not be for the house of Israel a brier that pricks and a thorn that inflicts pain from all the ones who surround them, the ones who scorn them.”

3 tn The Hebrew term occurs only here in the OT.

4 tn The Hebrew term is found elsewhere in the OT only in Ezek 28:24.

sn Here thorns may be a figure for hostility (Ezek 28:24; Mic 7:4).

5 tn Heb “of their faces.”
