Ephesians 5:26

to sanctify her by cleansing her ¹  with the washing of the water by the word,

to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,

so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,

to make her holy and clean, washed by baptism and God’s word.

Christ's love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her,

So that he might make it holy, having made it clean with the washing of water by the word,

in order to make her holy by cleansing her with the washing of water by the word,

that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,

to sanctify her by cleansing her ¹  with the washing of the water by the word,

¹ tn The direct object “her” is implied, but not found in the Greek text. It has been supplied in the English translation to clarify the sense of the passage.
