Psalms 62:10

Do not trust in what you can gain by oppression! ¹  Do not put false confidence in what you can gain by robbery! ²  If wealth increases, do not become attached to it! ³ 

Do not trust in extortion or take pride in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

Do not trust in oppression And do not vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.

Don’t try to get rich by extortion or robbery. And if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life.

And a windfall, if it comes--don't make too much of it.

Have no faith in the rewards of evil-doing, or in profits wrongly made: if your wealth is increased, do not put your hopes on it.

Put no confidence in extortion, and set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

Do not trust in oppression, Nor vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, Do not set your heart on them .

¹ tn Heb “do not trust in oppression.” Here “oppression” stands by metonymy for the riches that can be gained by oppressive measures, as the final line of the verse indicates.

² tn Heb “and in robbery do not place vain hope.” Here “robbery” stands by metonymy for the riches that can be gained by theft, as the next line of the verse indicates.

³ tn Heb “[as for] wealth, when it bears fruit, do not set [your] heart [on it].”
