Hearing the cry of the prisoner, making free those for whom death is ordered;

to hear the groans of the prisoners, to set free those who were doomed to die;

To hear the groaning of the prisoner, To release those appointed to death,

in order to hear the painful cries of the prisoners, and to set free those condemned to die, ¹ 

¹ tn Heb “the sons of death.” The phrase “sons of death” (see also Ps 79:11) is idiomatic for those condemned to die.
