Luke 8:31

And they began to beg ¹  him not to order ²  them to depart into the abyss. ³ 

And they begged him repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.

They were imploring Him not to command them to go away into the abyss.

The demons kept begging Jesus not to send them into the Bottomless Pit.

And they begged Jesus desperately not to order them to the bottomless pit.

And they made a request to him that he would not give them an order to go away into the deep.

They begged him not to order them to go back into the abyss.

And they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss.

And they began to beg ¹  him not to order ²  them to depart into the abyss. ³ 

¹ tn One could also translate the imperfect tense here with a repetitive force like “begged him repeatedly.”

² tn Or “command.”

³ tn This word, ἄβυσσος (abusso"), is a term for the place where the dead await the judgment. It also could hold hostile spirits according to Jewish belief (Jub. 5:6-7; 1 En. 10:4-6; 18:11-16).
