Isaiah 7:12

But Ahaz responded, “I don’t want to ask; I don’t want to put the Lord to a test.” ¹ 

But Ahaz said, "I will not ask; I will not put the LORD to the test."

But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, nor will I test the LORD!"

But the king refused. "No," he said, "I wouldn’t test the LORD like that."

But Ahaz said, "I'd never do that. I'd never make demands like that on GOD!"

But Ahaz said, I will not put the Lord to the test by making such a request.

But Ahaz said, I will not ask, and I will not put the LORD to the test.

But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, nor will I test the LORD!"

But Ahaz responded, “I don’t want to ask; I don’t want to put the Lord to a test.” ¹ 

¹ tn Ahaz uses the verb נָסַה (nasah, “test”) in its negative sense of “challenge, provoke.” However, this is false piety, a smokescreen designed to cover up his lack of faith in the Lord.
