Exodus 20:19

They said to Moses, “You speak ¹  to us and we will listen, but do not let God speak with us, lest we die.”

and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die."

Then they said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak to us, or we will die."

And they said to Moses, "You tell us what God says, and we will listen. But don’t let God speak directly to us. If he does, we will die!"

They said to Moses, "You speak to us and we'll listen, but don't have God speak to us or we'll die."

And they said to Moses, To your words we will give ear, but let not the voice of God come to our ears, for fear death may come on us.

¹ tn The verb is a Piel imperative. In this context it has more of the sense of a request than a command. The independent personal pronoun “you” emphasizes the subject and forms the contrast with God’s speaking.
