Deuteronomy 23:9

When you go out as an army against your enemies, guard yourselves against anything impure. ¹ 

When you are encamped against your enemies, keep away from everything impure.

"When you go out as an army against your enemies, you shall keep yourself from every evil thing.

"When you go to war against your enemies, stay away from everything impure.

When you are camped out, at war with your enemies, be careful to keep yourself from anything ritually defiling.

When you go out to war and put your tents in position, keep from every evil thing.

When you are encamped against your enemies you shall guard against any impropriety.

"When the army goes out against your enemies, then keep yourself from every wicked thing.

When you go out as an army against your enemies, guard yourselves against anything impure. ¹ 

¹ tn Heb “evil.” The context makes clear that this is a matter of ritual impurity, not moral impurity, so it is “evil” in the sense that it disbars one from certain religious activity.
