Daniel 4:13

While I was watching in my mind’s visions ¹  on my bed, a holy sentinel ²  came down from heaven.

"In the visions I saw while lying in my bed, I looked, and there before me was a messenger, a holy one, coming down from heaven.

‘I was looking in the visions in my mind as I lay on my bed, and behold, an angelic watcher, a holy one, descended from heaven.

"‘Then as I lay there dreaming, I saw a messenger, a holy one, coming down from heaven.

"'And this also is what I saw as I was stretched out on my bed. I saw a holy watchman descend from heaven,

In the visions of my head on my bed I saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven,

I continued looking, in the visions of my head as I lay in bed, and there was a holy watcher, coming down from heaven.

"I saw in the visions of my head while on my bed, and there was a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven.

While I was watching in my mind’s visions ¹  on my bed, a holy sentinel ²  came down from heaven.

² tn Aram “a watcher and a holy one.” The expression is a hendiadys; so also in v. 23. This “watcher” is apparently an angel. The Greek OT (LXX) in fact has ἄγγελος (angelo", “angel”) here. Theodotion simply transliterates the Aramaic word (’ir). The term is sometimes rendered “sentinel” (NAB) or “messenger” (NIV, NLT).
