Psalms 76:8

From heaven you announced what their punishment would be. ¹  The earth ²  was afraid and silent

From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet—

You caused judgment to be heard from heaven; The earth feared and was still

From heaven you sentenced your enemies; the earth trembled and stood silent before you.

From heaven you thunder judgment; earth falls to her knees and holds her breath.

From heaven you gave your decision; the earth, in its fear, gave no sound,

From the heavens you uttered judgment; the earth feared and was still

You caused judgment to be heard from heaven; The earth feared and was still,

From heaven you announced what their punishment would be. ¹  The earth ²  was afraid and silent

¹ tn Heb “a [legal] decision,” or “sentence.”

² tn “The earth” stands here by metonymy for its inhabitants.
