Psalms 5:1

For the music director, to be accompanied by wind instruments; ²  a psalm of David. Listen to what I say, ³  Lord! Carefully consider my complaint! ⁴ 

For the director of music. For flutes. A psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing.

<<For the choir director; for flute accompaniment. A Psalm of David.>> Give ear to my words, O LORD, Consider my groaning.

<<For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by the flute.>> O LORD, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning.

Listen, GOD! Please, pay attention! Can you make sense of these ramblings,

<To the chief music-maker on wind instruments. A Psalm. Of David.> Give ear to my words, O Lord; give thought to my heart-searchings.

Give ear to my words, O LORD; give heed to my sighing.

<<To the Chief Musician. With flutes. A Psalm of David.>> Give ear to my words, O LORD, Consider my meditation.

¹ sn Psalm 5. Appealing to God’s justice and commitment to the godly, the psalmist asks the Lord to intervene and deliver him from evildoers.

² tn The meaning of the Hebrew word נְחִילוֹת (nÿkhilot), which occurs only here, is uncertain. Many relate the form to חָלִיל (khalil, “flute”).

³ tn Heb “my words.”

⁴ tn Or “sighing.” The word occurs only here and in Ps 39:3.
